RA Squads Split With Twin River Valley
RUTHVEN – Ruthven-Ayrshire’s basketball teams earned a split with Twin River Valley to resume action after the holiday break on Friday, Jan. 4. In the girls contest, Ruthven-Ayrshire lost a 71-17 contest to the Thunder, while the Raiders earned a 64-39 win over their counterparts.
In the girls’ game, Ruthven-Ayrshire struggled offensively, scoring just three points in the first quarter to trail 18-3 and 32-8 at the intermission. Twin River Valley would score 18 points in the third quarter to take a 50-15 lead and then ran away from the Raiders in the final quarter for the 71-17 final tally.
For Ruthven-Ayrshire, Chelsey Reed scored six points, while Cassidy Smith added five points. Ashley Forey, Sadie Forey and Caitlyn Reed all scored two points in contest.
Chelsey Reed and Caitlyn Reed both grabbed nine rebounds in the contest.
“This was a very disappointing game for us,” noted RA Head Coach Jon Josephson. “We got out of rhythm early and were never able to get back into synch.”
The boys game had a different outcome, as the Raiders came up with a 64-39 victory over the Thunder.
Ruthven-Ayrshire got out to a quick start, putting the Thunder down early and went on to control the tempo of the game in recording the victory.
Tyler Enderson would lead the Raiders with 20 points in the effort, while Andy Rowlands would follow with 14 points. Brad Geelan chipped in 11 points and Ryan Hoffman tallied the double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Ryan Sikora chipped in five points, while Cody Zielstra and Carl Jensen both added two points each to the winning effort.
“Our defense led to a lot of easy baskets,” noted RA Head Coach Randy Hough. “We were led by a nice, balanced scoring attack and this was a good win for the Raiders to come off Christmas break.”
The Raiders will entertain Harris-Lake Park tonight (Tuesday) in Cornbelt Conference action, and then host Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne Friday.
