Offensive Struggles Continue For Lady E’Hawks

The offensive woes continued for the Emmetsburg Lady E’Hawks after the holiday break. Emmetsburg came up short in a 61-43 loss to Manson Northwest Webster on Thursday night and then fell to Lakes Conference foe Spencer on Friday by an 80-25 tally. The setbacks drop the Lady E’Hawks to a mark of 1-7 in the Lakes and 4-9 overall on the season.

In Thursday’s game, the Lady E’hawks trailed 19-9 after the first quarter and then scored 10 points in the second quarter to trail 32-19 at the intermission. In the second half, Emmetsburg tried to stay with the Cougars but trailed 50-32 to start the final quarter, as Manson took the 61-43 win.

For Emmetsburg, Kayla Herbers led the offense with 21 points, while Bailee Moore added eight points and Tiffany Wollum chipped in seven markers. Nicole Leuer had three points, while Maddison Woodruff and Mollie Smith both added two points.

Moving back into Lakes Conference play on Friday night, the Lady E’Hawks couldn’t get many shots against a rugged Spencer defense. The Tigers jumped out to a 21-2 lead on the Lady E’Hawks, and expanded their lead to a 37-15 tally at the halftime break.

Emmetsburg was limited to five points in the third quarter as the Tigers went to their bench and were able to post a 63-20 lead over the Lady E’Hawks. In the final quarter, Emmetsburg tried shots, but couldn’t buy many buckets as the Tigers went on to record the 80-25 win.

Emmetsburg got eight points from Molly Clasing in the effort, while Bailee Moore, Kayla Herbers and Mollie Smith all scored four points. Nicole Leuer and Maddison Woodruff both added a bucket each for two points and Caitlin Wise came off the bench to add a free throw for one point.

The Lady E’Hawks will continue in the Lakes Conference battles tonight (Tuesday) when they travel to Spirit Lake before making the long road trip to Cherokee on Friday night.
