Knights Split With WCLT
GRAETTINGER – The Knights of Graettinger/Terril earned a split on the hardwood Friday night with Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka. In the girls contest, Graettinger/Terril lost a 61-36 decision and in the boys contest, Graettinger./Terril claimed a 52-48 win over the Tigers.
In the girls game, the Knights trailed 20-4 at the end of the first quarter and saw WCLT take a 39-12 lead at the intermission. The Knights continued to struggle offensively in the second half, as WCLT took a 49-22 lead at the end of the third quarter and went on to tally the 61-36 final margin of victory.
For Graettinger/Terril, Theresa Peterson and Malorie Girres both scored six points, while Liz Sparks added five points. Dakota Hovinga and Lizzie Niemann both scored four points, while Tasha Neilson had three points and Amanda Oleson scored two points and Leah Flaharty added a free throw for one point.
In was a different matter for he boys game, as the Knights took a 17-13 lead over the Tigers at the end of the first quarter. Graettinger/Terril would score nine points in the second quarter to cling to a 28-23 lead at the intermission.
In the third quarter, the Knights were able to hold on to their lead, posting a 38-31 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Tigers actually outscored the Knights 17-16 in the final quarter, but it was a little too late to make a difference as the Knights posted the 52-48 win.
Tyler Leiting led the Knights with 24 points on the night, while while Cody Dyhrkopp added nine points to the effort. Dalton Perrin would score eight points for Graettinger/Terril, while Drew Skattebo chipped in seven points and Eric Hatland added four points to round out the scoring.
“We did a good job of finding the open man in this game and giving them a high percentage shot,” noted GT Head Coach Brent Dyhrkopp. “Also, we hit some key free throws during the game.”
