By Staff | Jan 3, 2008

Emmetsburg’s E’Hawk junior varsity came up short in a 38-33 loss to LeMars on Dec. 21. The loss gives the young E’Hawks a mark of 3-3 on the season.

The E’Hawks led 8-6 after the first quarter of play, but a cold streak for Emmetsburg allowed LeMars to edge out to a 22-17 lead at half time. The Bulldogs held on to a 27-22 lead after three quarters and went on to earn the 38-33 victory over the E’Hawks.

For Emmetsburg, Langson Jones would tally 13 points, while Tommy Kuecker added six points. Scott Smith scored four points, while Kyle Elbert and Nate Brown both chipped in three points each. Nick Wuebker and Ben Pelzer rounded out the scoring with two points each.

Nick Wuebker would snag 11 rebounds for the young E’hawks defensively.

Emmetsburg pulled down 27 rebounds and committed 21 turnovers in the contest. The E’Hawks hit three of 10 from outside the arc and 10 of 30 inside the arc, along with four of seven free throws.

LeMars made two of five from outside the arc, nine of 30 inside the arc and 14 of 22 at the charity stripe.

“Our defense was good in holding them to under 35 percent shooting,” noted JV Coach Phil Geelan. “LeMars always puts good pressure on man-to-man, and we have to learn to handle it better. We had too many turnovers.”
