Raider Girls Fall To AR Mustangs

By Staff | Dec 20, 2007

ARMSTRONG – It was a long night for the Raiders of Ruthven-Ayrshire on Tuesday as they fell to the Lady Mustangs of Armstrong-Ringsted by a 57-37 decision.

The tone of the game was set very quickly as Armstrong-Ringsted came out and scored on nearly every trip down the court in the first period. The Raiders struggled to get their first bucket against the pressure of AR, but managed to find the bucket by the end of the quarter to trail 15-9.

In the second quarter, the Raiders continued to battle and were able to cut into AR’s margin at one point, but the Mustangs came back with a flurry of buckets to post a 25-16 lead at the intermission.

Ruthven-Ayrshire would continue to play hard in the second quarter, staying within 10 points of the Mustangs through most of the third quarter until the Mustangs began to take advantage of fouls in the late moments of the quarter for a 39-25 lead to start the final frame. The Raiders would score 12 points in the final quarter against Armstrong-Ringsted, but the Mustang girls would score 18 as they continued to use their pressure defense and quickness to stay out of reach of the Raider girls and collect the Cornbelt Conference win.

For Ruthven-Ayrshire, the offense was led by the 15 point effort of Cassidy Smith, while Lynn Geelan added 10 points on the night. Chelsey Reed and Sadie Forey would both score four points in the contest, while Ashley Forey and Megan Alexander both added two points to the final effort.

The Raiders return home Friday to host Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka before the holiday break.
