Lady E’Hawks Fall At Okoboji On Saturday

By Staff | Dec 20, 2007

MILFORD – Cold shooting in the first half would prove to be the difference for Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawks in a 62-49 loss to Okboboji on Saturday night. The setback gives Emmetsburg a mark of 4-6 overall on the season.

“We played pretty good defense and really out rebounded them,” noted Emmetsburg Head Coach John Kennedy, “but we just couldn’t get any shots to fall early in the game.”

Neither team set the world on fire offensively in the first quarter, with Okoboji taking a 9-4 lead over the Lady E’Hawks, but things weren’t much better in the second frame, as Emmetsburg added just four more points as Okoboji took a 16-8 lead at the intermission.

But in the second half, Okoboji and Emmetsburg would go bucket for bucket, with both teams scoring 16 points for a 32-24 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Emmetsburg’s defense, led by Kayla Herbers, was functioning well inside, while the offensive unit was getting good looks at the bucket and getting their shots to drop.

In the final quarter, both teams would continue to trade points, with both teams coming up with 21-point efforts. However, the slow start by Emmetsburg would lead to the 13 point deficit loss for the Lady E’Hawks.

Kayla Herbers had a career night for Emmetsburg with 17 points and 20 rebounds, along with 12 blocked shots for the triple-triple. Bailee Moore added 12 points to the effort with eight rebounds, while Molly Clasing came up with nine points. Maddison Woodruff chipped in seven points and and Mollie Smith capped off the effort with two points.

Emmetsburg will wrap up this portion of the season on Friday when they play host to LeMars in a Lakes Conference matchup before the holiday break.
