Knight Grapplers Earn Split

LAURENS — The Graettinger/Terril Knights wrestled to a split in Northwest Conference mat action last Thursday evening. The Knights would run into a strong Twin River Valley-West Bend-Mallard squad, falling by a 53-21 margin, but then came back to defeat Laurens-Marathon by a 54-18 tally in the nightcap.

“The kids wrestled well tonight,” observed Graettinger/Terril Head Coach Cody Alesch. “There are some things that each kid needs to work on, but we are continually getting better.”

In the dual with the Thunder, the Knights won three of the matches that were contested.

At 189 pounds, Jake Hoffman earned a 1:30 win by fall over Blake Naeve. Then at 103 pounds, James Tatman earned a 1:24 win by fall over the Thunder’s Cody Maggard. The final Knight victory in the dual came at 135 pounds, where Michael Jensen scored a 6-3 decision over Levi Petes. The Knights also received a forfeit win for heavyweight Kyle Brown.

In other matches, Logan Tonderum at 140, Taylor Harris at 145, Heath Marchand at 152, Josh Anderson at 171 and Ryan Schany at 112 were all pinnedwhile Kass Schany, wrestling at 160, lost a decision to Cody Benjamin.

In action against the host Laurens-Marathon squad, the Knights won all of the contested matches.

Tyler Harris would earn a :45 win by fall over Damion Wilson in the 145 pound match and Kyle Brown pinned Cody Simpson in 1:57 of the heavyweight match.

At 103, Ryan Schany won a technical fall over Chad Kischer and at 112, James Tatman scored a :35 win by fall over Trent Kischer and Michael Jensen scored a :50 win by fall over Mark Griffin at 135.

Heath Marchand at 152, ,Josh Anderson at 171, Jake Hoffman at 215 and Logan Tonderum, wrestling at 140, all received wins by forfeits.
