ARMSTRONG – The Knights of Graettinger/Terril earned a split in basketball action at Armstrong-Ringsted on Friday. The Lady Knights fell by a 76-36 tally while the Knights earned a 55-53 win.

In the girls contest, the Knights suffered from cold shooting and a stingy AR defense. The Knights trailed 13-9 after one quarter and 34-16 at the half, before AR put on a big run in the third quarter, scoring 19 points while allowing GT to score just six for a 53-22 score to start the final quarter, and the 76-36 final.

For Graettinger/Terril, Theresa Peterson scored 18 points and Malorie Girres added 10 points. Leah Flaharty, Tasha Nielson and Amanda Olson all had two points and Liz Sparks added a free throw.

It was a different situation in the boys game, however, as the Knights came up with a thrilling 55-53 victory over the Mustangs.

The two teams played to a 10-10 tie after one quarter of play, but the Knights edged out to a one-point, 17-16 lead at the intermission.

The third quarter saw both clubs struggle somewhat with their scoring, but Graettinger/Terril edged out to take a 40-36 lead to start the final quarter. Both clubs would trade buckets through the quarter, but it was Graettinger/Terril who would hang on to record the two-point victory.

For the Knights, Cody Dyhrkopp led the scoring with 15 points, while Drew Skattebo added 14 markers. Tyler Leiting came away with 12 points, while Dalton Perrin scored eight points. Eric Hatland came up with four points and Taylor Lloyd chipped in two points.

“We played very well as a team,” noted Knights Head Coach Brent Dyhrkopp. “We did a good job at hitting our free throws to keep our lead at the end of the game.”

With the victory, Graettinger/Terril improves to 2-2 in their division of the Cornbelt and 2-5 overall.
