Youth Rec Basketball Program Set

The Emmetsburg Recreation Department will once again be sponsoring a boys and girls Youth Basketball Program this winter. Emmetsburg Recreation Director Mike Dunlap says the program will be offered to girls and boys in grades three through six on Saturday mornings through the winter.

The program will tip off on Saturday, January 5 and will continue through the month, ending on February 2..

The program will be held at the Emmetsburg High School Gym for boys and at the Emmetsburg Middle School for girls. Girls will meet at the Middle School, with third and fourth graders meeting from 9 to 10 a.m. and fifth and sixth graders meeting from 10 to 11 a.m.

Boys in third and fourth grades will meet at Corrigan Hall in Emmetsburg from 9 to 10 a.m. and fifth and sixth grade boys will meet from 10 to 11 a.m.

At the initial session on Jan. 5, schedules for the program will be distributed to the participants.The program will begin with a clinic session begin conducted by the Emmetsburg High School varsity basketball coaching staff. .

The Youth Basketball program is designed to teach the basic rules and fundamentals of the game of basketball. Participants will be divided into teams in their age groups with which to scrimmage. Members of the E’Hawk and Lady E’Hawk basketball teams will serve as coaches. The youth will have an opportunity to scrimmage during half-time at Emmetsburg High School games during the season as part of the youth program.

A participation fee is required for the program and may be paid to the Emmetsburg Recreation Department at the Emmetsburg City Hall, 2021 Main Street, in Emmetsburg. Enrollment forms and permission slips have been distributed in schools and must be returned to school or to the Emmetsburg City Hall by Friday, Dec. 21.
