Ruthven-Ayrshire Defeats Knights
RUTHVEN – It was a classic battle of old rivals on Tuesday night and when the final horn sounded, it was the Raiders of Ruthven-Ayrshire taking a 62-41 win over Graettinger/Terril.
Even though the Raiders have been playing some solid basketball of late and the Knights have been struggling, one throws records out the window when the two neighboring schools meet in competition.
Ruthven-Ayrshire would come out of the game at a dead run on Tuesday, as they hustled from the opening tipoff and put up a solid, punishing defense that kept the Knights off-balance. The Raiders were able to get shots despite the best efforts of the Knights defense, and were able to take a 15-8 lead at the end of the opening quarter of the game.
The Knights struggled into the second quarter to get an offensive flow going, as the Raiders continued to play defense and take a 29-19 lead at the intermission.
Ruthven-Ayrshire would go on a 20-13 run in the third quarter over Graettinger/Terril, putting the game out of reach in the third for a 49-32 lead, and then finished the contest off in strong fashion for the 62-41 final.
For the Raiders, Andy Rowlands would lead the offense with 18 points, while Ryan hoffman added 11 points. Balanced scoring came into play for RA again as Tyler Enderson, Cody Zielstra and Carl Jensen all scored eight points and Brad Geelan tallied seven points. Al Japenga rounded out the scoring with two points.
For Graettinger/Terril, Tyler Leiting had 17 points, while Cody Dhyrkopp added nine points and Dalton Perrin came away with eight points. Drew Skattebo added six points and Eric Hatland chipped in one point.
