Knight Wrestlers Fifth At Sibley-Ocheyedan Tourney

GRAETTINGER – Despite having a limited lineup, the Knights of Graettinger/Terril earned a fifth place finish in Saturday’s Sibley-Ocheyedan Wrestling Invitational Tournament. With just nine wrestlers making the trip to Sibley, the Knights brought home seven placings on the day.

James Tatman would lead the Knights on Saturday, as he won the 103 pound weight class. After a first round bye, Tatman earned :32 win by fall over Ronnie Huseman of Aurelia/Galva-Holstein-Schal-ler-Crestland and then won the championship with a 13-0 major decision over Ethan Lambert of Maurice-Orange City-Floyd Valley.

Kass Schany earned second place at 160 pounds after losing an 11-3 major decision to Brian block of Sibley-Ocheyedan in the finals. Schany started his day at the tournament with a :39 win by fall over Nick Thompson of West Lyon and then receive an injury default win from Evan Ascherl of Sheldon/South O’Brien to advance to the final round.

At 189 pounds, Jake Hoffman started the day with a 3:21 pin of jordan Peterson of Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, and then decisioned Jason Koedam of West Lyon 7-4 before being pinned by Sheldon/South O’Brien’s Josh Ihnen in 1:18 to settle for second place honors.

Graettinger/Terril would get third place finishes from Michael Jensen at 135 pounds, Josh Anderson at 171 pounds and from Kyle Brown at 285 pounds, while Ryan Schany, wrestling at 112 pounds, would earn a sixth place finish for the Knights.

Rounding out the efforts for Graettinger/Terril were Logan Tonderum at 140 and Taylor Harris at 145 pounds. Neither wrestler earned a placing.

“Overall, the kids wrestled well against some quality competition,” noted Graettinger/Terril Head Coach Cody Alesch. “We were without a few people, but the kids that went to Sibley and wrestled all wrestled very tough.”

Graettinger/Terril will travel to Laurens-Marathon on Thursday night for a double dual with the Chargers and the Thunder of Twin River Valley/West Bend-Mallard.
