Mona Rose Knudson was born June 1, 1929, on a farm near Emmetsburg, the daughter of Harley Vern "H.V." and Rose (Broome) Wilson. She attended Emmetsburg grade school and high school.

On March 3, 1948, Mona Wilson and Gerald Knudson were married at the Lutheran Parsonage in Cylinder. Mona and Gerald farmed in the area for many years until their retirement, when Mona and Jerry moved to their new retirement home in Emmetsburg. Mona took great pride in their retirement home and for many years grew beautiful roses that were enjoyed by them and passing neighbors. Her yard was immaculate and she could be seen every day caring for some plant in her yard.

Mona was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg, where she was a devoted Circle member. She and Gerald cared for the church shrubbery and trees for many years, following in the footsteps of what her mother and father had done for the church since the 1950's.

Mona died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; two sisters, Pearl Lutroe and Marjorie Korlaske, along with brothers-in-law, Paul Campbell, Orpheus Korlaske and Albert Lutroe.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Bleckwenn of Germantown, Maryland, Susan Tywater of Faribault, MN, and Julie Hough of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren 13 thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Beverly Campbell and two nieces, Donna Rorstrum and Rita Mazur; as well as other relatives and friends.
