FORT?DODGE - A two-day appearance at the Fort Dodge Invitational Tournament this past weekend would give Emmetsburg a 1-3 mark after a win over Sioux City East and losses to Solon, Newell-Fonda and North Union. The losses give the Lady E-Hawks a 7-9 mark overall on the season.
Emmetsburg's tournament appearance began Friday morning against Solon, who defeated Emmetsburg in a no-hitter by a 15-0 tally in three innings of play.
Solon opened the game with a seven-run first inning, while Emmetsburg was struck out in order in the bottom of the inning. Solon would add six runs in the top of the second frame, as Emmetsburg would be retired in order in their half of the inning.
In the top of the third, Solon added two runs but stranded two runners. The Lady E-Hawks would be retired in order to end the game.
Hali Noll would be charged with the loss, surrendering 10 earned runs off 10 hits in one inning, while Ashton Connelly gave up six runs off six hits in two innings of work.
Coming off the opening round loss, the Lady E-Hawks would play Sioux City East and earned an 8-2 win in six innings on the tournament time limit.
Emmetsburg would score a run from Sarah Simington in the first inning and a run from Ashton Connelly in the second frame before adding runs by Alexa Naig, Sarah Simington and Michaela Rehm to take a 5-0 advantage after three innings.
Sioux City scored two runs in the top of the fourth and Emmetsburg added a run from Bailee Garrelts for a 6-2 lead in the fifth. East would strand a runner in the top of the sixth, and Alexa Naig and Tegan Olson would come across the plate for the 8-2 win.
Ashton Connelly got the win, giving up two earned runs off five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Emmetsburg got three hits from Sarah Simington while Alexa Naig and Michaela Rehm both had two hits and Tegan Olson, Bailee Garrelts, Ashton Connelly and Ashley Overberg all had one hit.
Saturday morning the Lady E-Hawks played Newell-Fonda, but lost 7-4 in six innings.
Emmetsburg got a run in the first from Alexa Naig, but Newell-Fonda equalled the mark. Ashton Connelly tallied a run in the second to take a 2-1 lead that lasted to the fourth inning, when Newell-Fonda pushed five runs over the plate for a 6-2 lead.
The Lady E-Hawks would tally runs by Sarah Simington and Ashley Overberg in the fifth inning, but Newell-Fonda added an insurance run in the sixth for the 7-4 final score.
Ashton Connelly took the loss, giving up seven earned runs off nine hits with three walks.
Tegan Olson and Ashley Overberg had two hits each, while Alexa Naig, Michaela Rehm and Bailee Garrelts all had hits.
In their final game, Emmetsburg fell to North Union by a 5-0 tally. North Union would score a run in the second inning after trading outs in the first with the Lady E-Hawks and then traded outs in the next three innings before scoring a run in the sixth and three runs in the seventh before the time limit expired as Emmetsburg went scoreless.

Emmetsburg got a double from Alexa Naig and hits from Sarah Simington, Ashton Connelly and Kate Jackson to wrap up the tournament.
