ALTA - Last Saturday's trapshooting event at Alta proved to be another challenging event for the High school and middle school members of the Emmetsburg Hotshots Trapshooting Team. Once again, fierce winds played havoc with targets all day long for all the shooters.
However, the Emmetsburg shooters remained poised all day long and came away with several great efforts.
The Hot Shots Crazy 8s, which is made up of Hunter McAlister, Austin Berg-strom, Zane Wickman, Blake Ver Mulm, and Jackson Knight, shot exceptionally well considering the conditions. The group ended up the day as the high-scoring Intermediate team.
Incidentally, the Crazy 8's actually were the second highest shooting team of the day, topped only by one high school team in final scores.
Also shooting as intermediates on Saturday were Dalton Bunda, Matt Hill, Jon Lace, and Gavin Jorgenson.
Hunter McAlister was the high Intermediate shooter, but the actual second place was determined by a shoot-off between Jackson Knight and Gavin Jorgenson, as both young men shot 36's during the match, then tied again in the first shoot-off with 17's.
That required a second shoot-off, with Gavin narrowly getting by Jackson 21-20 for second place, slipping Jackson into third.
The Hotshots' Rookies also had a good day, with all three of the Hot Shots rookies earning placings.
Matt Berkland took first place, while Donald Strohman securing second place and Lex Kassel came away with third place honors.
In the high school ranks, Allen Jensen and Connor Crosgrove both competed and despite not coming away with outstanding scores, shot very well in the highly unfavorable conditions.
