SPIRIT?LAKE - Emmetsburg's E-Hawks would finish sixth overall at Tuesday's Spirit Lake Co-Ed track meet, and then earned fourth place at Thursday's Estherville Relays, but the finish did lead to news at week's end that senior Allen Jensen earned qualification for the 2014 Drake Relays.
Jensen, who was a three-event winner on both Tuesday and Thursday, qualified for the 110 meter high hurdles at Drake, after the high school qualifiers were announced Friday afternoon.
Jensen's season-best time of :14.95, recorded at Thursday's ELC?Relays, puts the senior into the field at Drake Stadium in Des Moines this Friday morning.

Jensen won the 100 meter dash in :11.99 and the 200 meter dash in :23.58, along with the 110 high hurdles in :15.78. Additionally, Jensen was a member of the Shuttle Hurdle Relay along with Brandon Elbert, Alex DeFord and Zach Anderson that won the event with a time of 1:04.49.
The E-Hawks got a seventh place finish from Nick Chapman in the discus with a throw of 108'8", while Nick Jackson threw the platter 83'2" to finish 12th. Jackson also earned a ninth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 36'1.5" and Pat Brennan placed 11th with a throw of 34'8". In the long jump, Max Hadabank finished eighth by leaping 17'8.5" and Wes Schultes finished tenth, leaping 16'6.50".
Emmetsburg's 4x800 relay would finish sixth with a time of 10:09.50, while Nick Grandstaff earned fourth place in the 3200 meter run with his time of 11:01.62. Grandstaff would then finish sixth in the 1600 meter run with a 5:16.39 clocking and teammate Daniel VanOosbree finished 11th with his time of 5:54.80.
Alex DeFord would turn in a time of :12.54 in the 100 meter dash to earn sixth place overall, while Aaron Bird finished with a :25.11 clocking in the 200 meter dash to place eighth overall. Shay Mortenson would place sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of :56.23 and Max Hadabank finished tenth with a 1:00.20 clocking in the 400 meters.
In the 400 meter hurdles, Dalton Connelly turned in a 1:08.00 time to place ninth and Carson Clark finished the 800 meter run in 2:33.71 to finish ninth.
Emmetsburg's 4x200 relay squad finished sixth with a time of 1:40.75, while the Sprint Medley Relay finished fifth with a 4:12.62 effort. The 4x100 relay turned in a time of :47.77 to place fifth and the 4x400 relay would finish sixth with their time of 4:03.33.
Emmetsburg's Junior Varsity 4x400 relay was third with a 4:19.97 and the JV?4x200 relay finished fourth with a time of 1:47.34.
Running in the Estherville Relays on Thursday, Emmetsburg once again got solid efforts in a highly competitive meet.
Allen Jensen turned in a time of :11.27 in the 100 meter dash and then won the 200 meters in a ;22.97 clocking, but the senior punched his ticket for the Drake Relays with his 110 high hurdle season's best of :14.95.
Emmetsburg also won the Shuttle Hurdle Relay, as Brandon Elbert, Alex DeFord, Zach Anderson and Allen Jensen blazed through with a 1:00.83 clocking.
Nick Grandstaff would earn third place honors in the 3200 meter run with a 10:44.35 time, and followed that up with tenth place in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:14.80.
Alex DeFord finished sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of :12.00 and Aaron Bird earned tenth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of :25.16.
Shay Mortenson finished fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of :55.15 and Max Hadabank earned 14th place in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.39. In the 800 meter run, Jas Jamison finished 11th for the E-Hawks with a time of 2:37.08.
Brandon Elbert would finish tenth in the 110 high hurdle race with a time of :17.30. In the 400 hurdles, Zach Anderson turned in a 1:04.25 to place eighth and Dalton Connelly finished tenth with a time of 1:07.40.
Emmetsburg's 4x100 relay squad would finish third with a time of :47.04, while the 4x200 relay turned in a 1:41.25 to finish seventh. The 4x400 relay earned a seventh place finish as well with its time of 4:02.67 and the 4x800 relay finished fourth with a time of 9:54.55.
The Distance Medley Relay would finish fourth with a time of 4:02.01 to round out the relay finishes at Estherville.
In the field events, Pat Brennan placed tenth in the shot put with a throw of 35'1/4". Nick Chapman finished ninth in the discus, throwing the platter 109' and Nick Jackson was tenth with a throw of 96'4".
Rounding out the varsity finishes were Max Hadabank in the long jump, leaping 16'3/4" to place 11th and Wes Schultes jumping 15'9.75" to finish 12th.
The E-Hawk Junior Varsity also competed on Thursday and had several solid finishes.
Dalton Hauschen took third in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:57.59, while Phil Manz was fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.59. Manz also finished fourth in the discus, throwing 92'11" and then took fifth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of :27.19.
Austin Noll finished sixth in the shot put, throwing 32'3" and Nick Plantz finished sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of :33.26. Pat Brennan placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 78', while Thomas Schultes took seventh in the 100 meter dash with his time of :12.93. Nick Plantz was ninth in the 100 meter dash with a time of :14.45 and Gage Jamison finished 11th in the 400 meter dash with his time of 1:12.37.
The Junior Varsity 4x100 relay finished second with a time of :49.76, while the 4x200 squad was third in 1:45.11
The JV?4x400 relay finished fourth with a 4:09.61 effort and the Distance Medley finished third with a time of 4:51.13.
The E-Hawks were slated to run at North Union on Monday and then on Friday when they are scheduled to run in the Pocahontas Relays at Pocahontas.
