The Freshmen Boys Basketball team opened up the season on the road against Bishop Garrigan. After falling behind by 2 at halftime the E-hawks used a 14-2 run to start the second half to open up a ten point lead and never looked back winning the contest 57-50. The team came out a little rusty with it being their first game but started to pick apart Garrigan's zone in the second half. Leading the way for the E-hawks was Thomas Schultes with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Max Dunlap recorded a double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Grant Dietering contributed 14 points, Dalton Connelly added 11, Will Schany with 2 and Aaron Hutchinson rounded out the scoring with a free throw. The team was able to play well recording 12 assists on 19 made shots.
On December 9, the E-hawk Freshmen Boys Basketball team traveled to Okoboji where they recorded a 45-32 victory over the Pioneers. It was a sloppy game with too many turnovers for the E-hawks but they were able to pull out the victory against a tough Okoboji team. Thomas Schultes led the way with 17 points and 5 assists. Max Dunlap had 12 points and 8 rebounds. Grant Dietering added 6 points, Dalton Connelly added 5 points, Brent Wesley with 3 points and Jason Huang added jumper for 2 points. Will Schany dished out 3 assists. The E-hawks were able to move their record to 2-0 on the season.
On December 10, the E-hawk Freshmen Basketball team traveled to Algona for a game with the Bulldogs. After a hard fought battle the E-hawks won the game 55-50. Leading the way for the E-hawks with a double was Max Dunlap with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Thomas Schultes with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Both Dunlap and Schultes also pitched in 3 asssists. Pitching in for the E-hawks was Grant Dietering with 8 points, Dalton Connolly with 6 points and Brent Wesley and Will Schany each made a free throw for one point. The E-hawks played a second game consisting of 2 quarters, losing 25-17. For the E-hawks Jason Huang and Will Schany each scored 5 points, Mason Carrigan added 4, Aaron Hutchinson made a bucket for two points and Jordan Cole added a free throw for a point. It was a close game throughout but the Bulldogs made more plays at the end to win the game. It was a solid effort by all the players in each game played by the E-hawks.
On December 12, the Emmetsburg Freshmen Boys Basketball team traveled to Hartley Melvin Sanborn for a contest. A tough game was won by the E-hawks 41-36 in overtime. Leading the way for the E-hawks was Max Dunlap with a double double 15 points, 17 rebounds and 5 steals. Thomas Schultes scored 11 and handed out three assists. Also scoring for the E-hawks were Grant Dietering with 9, Dalton Connolly with 2, Brent Wesley with 2 and Will Schany with 2.
On December 19, the E-hawk Freshmen Boys Basketball team traveled to Spirit Lake where they suffered their first loss of the season with a 44-35 decision in overtime. After taking an 8 point lead into halftime the E-hawks struggled to find the basket in the second half. Max Dunlap led the way for the E-hawks with double double 14 points and 10 rebounds. Grant Dietering scored 13 points and pulled down 9 rebounds as well. Rounding out the scoring for the E-hawks was Dalton Connolly with 6, Matt Kibbie with 1 and Will Schany with 1. Schany also handed out 4 assists. The E-hawks entered the Christmas break with a 4-1 record and will resume play on January 6 at home against ELC.
