A Memorial Service for Leon "Lee" Cooper, 86, of Emmetsburg was held Saturday, Aug. 31, at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge or arrangements.
Leon Daniel Cooper was born April 4, 1927, in Primghar, the son of Daniel and Matilda (Kreymburg) Cooper. Lee grew up in Primghar where he attended Primghar schools.
On June 5, 1949, Lee was united in marriage to Dorothy Manley. To this union, four children were born. Dorothy preceded Lee in death in 2007.
Lee owned and operated a full service filling station in Primghar before moving to Emmetsburg in 1955 to work for Cornbelt Power. In 1961, Lee began farming four miles west of Emmetsburg where they raised grain, chicken and hogs.
Lee and Dorothy spent their retirement years in Primghar and Emmetsburg and several winters in Texas.
On Aug. 7, 2009, Lee married Geraldine Strzy-zewski, and the couple enjoyed nearly four years together living in Emmetsburg and Texas.
Lee enjoyed working, as an electrician and a farmer. He was an avid E-Hawk supporter and fan. Most of all, Lee loved to spend time with his children grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, Lee passed away at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. He was 86.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Geraldine of Emmetsburg; four children: Terry Cooper (Sherry) of Emmetsburg, Sandy Brown (Dan) of Bowling Green, KY, Dan Cooper (Mary) of Emmetsburg and Randy Cooper (Karen) of Allen, TX; two sisters: Mina Thompson of Paullina, and Marilyn Omar of Walsenburg, CO; a brother, Ray Cooper of Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five step-grand- children; and eight step-great-grandchildren; and two step-children: Carl and Sandra and their families.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; and one step-great-grandchild.
