MILFORD - The lone wrestler for West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate Wolverines saw his hopes for a state tournament berth denied on Saturday.
Dan Eubank, who wrestled at 160 pounds in Saturday's Class 1A District Tournament at Okoboji High School, would finish third at the weight class.
Eubank's tournament opened with a first round match with Dylan Rolfes of Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen Union. In the match, Eubank would be pinned in 1:53 of the match to move to the consolation bracket.
In his consolation match, Eubank wrestled Andrew Brockshus of Sibley-Ocheyedan and earned a 5:39 win by fall over his opponent to guarantee him at least a third place finish.
But, Eubank earned an opportunity to wrestle for a possible second-place finish after his first-round opponent, Dylan Rolfes, earned the championship by defeating Drue Kenny of Ridge View.
Eubank would meet Kenny in a wrestleback match to determine the true second-place. However, Kenny would earn a 1:23 win by fall over the Wolverine grappler to take the second place, denying Eubank the state tournament appearance and ending his season.
