Rep. Hess and Sen. Johnson Receive Legislative Committee Assignments

DES MOINES Representative-Elect Megan Hess (R-Spencer) announced her committee assignments for the upcoming legislative session.

Hess will serve as on the following standing committees: Education, Environmental Protection, Human Resources, and Judiciary Committees. Additionally, she was chosen to serve as Vice-Chair of the Judiciary committee. She will also serve on the Justice System Appropriations Subcommittee.

"My committee assignments will allow me to work directly on the biggest issues concerning House District 2: educating our students, mental health reform, and the conservation of our economic lifeline the lakes," Hess stated.

"Representative-Elect Hess is a principled leader and an extremely hard worker," said Speaker of the Iowa House Kraig Paulsen. "She will be a tremendous asset to these committees."

Hess was elected on Nov. 6, 2012 and will be officially sworn into office on Jan. 14, 2013.

Senate Republicans named their Ranking Members for standing and budget committees this week.

Senator David Johnson (R-Ocheyedan) was named the Ranking member of the Senate Human Resources Committee for the 2013 Legislative Session which convenes on January 14, 2013. He will also serve on the Senate Education and Natural Resources and Environment Committees.

"As a state senator, David Johnson is a great asset to the Republican team as well as the committees he serves upon," said Senate Republican Leader Bill Dix (R-Shell Rock).
