HARTLEY For volleyball teams, the post season offers every team a chance to start fresh as they battle for an opportunity to play in the State Championships in November. Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks opened their second season in exciting fashion with a 3-2 victory over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Tuesday night in Class 2A Regional tournament play. The Lady E-Hawks fell in the first game by a 17-25 score, but came back to win game two with a 25-18 score. HMS would win game three by a 12-25 score, but Emmetsburg rallied to win game four with a 25-22 tally and then won the match with at 15-12 tally in the deciding fifth game.
Whitney Kibbie would play well in the match with 13 of 13 serves and an ace to her credit, along with 27 of 34 hits and 11 kills. Kibbie assisted on one block, dug out six shots and handed out 12 assists to her teammates.
Ashton Connelly had a big night at the net, making 26 of 32 hits with 13 kills and making a solo block and assisting on one block, while handing out one assist.
Miranda Vlasman provided 19 of20 serves with three aces on the night, as well at 21 of 22 hits with seven kills, one solo block and an assisted block, along with 14 digs. Emily Noll added 23 of 23 service completions and made six of eight hits with two kills along with three digs.
Alexa Naig added 16 of 17 serves with one ace, along with 11 of15 hits and three kills at the net. Naig dug out eight shots and handed out 15 assists in the match. Jacque Carlson would add 10 of 11 serves with one ace and made three of six hits, with one solo block and one assisted block, as well as digging out three shots and making one assist.
Britni Will chipped in 10 of 12 service completions with one ace serve and dug out eight shots, while libero player Michaela Rehm added five digs to the winning effort.
The Lady E-Hawks continue their post season on Tuesday night, Oct. 23, when they travel to Hull to take on Boyden-Hull in a 7 p.m. contest.
