STORM?LAKE - Despite a blustery wind on Tuesday at the Lakes Conference Meet in Storm Lake, Emmetsburg's girls and boys cross country teams continued to improve their times in anticipation of next week's Class 1A Regional/District Meet at Holstein.
The Lady E-Hawks set three new personal best marks during the competition on Tuesday, starting with Mikki Mundus, who paced the varsity girls with a 17:14 time, a new personal best and 19th place finish.
Taylor Reimer would finish in 25th place with a time of 17.26, while Caroline Fantz finished 31st in a time of 17:53. Tara Harris added an 18:02 clocking to place 34th overall, while Rachel Ruddy set a new personal record with her time of 18:42, good for 38th place.
Emily Bonnstetter would finish 49th with an 18:48 effort and Maura Soukup rounded out the varsity effort with a 19:14 clocking, good for 44th place.
In the JV?girls race, Madison Reimer placed 30th with a 20:05, while Kiersten Aldous was 46th in 22:17 and Ema Rodriguez set a new personal record with a time of 26:18 for 56th place.
For the E-Hawk boys, times continued to improve as Nick Grandstaff would finish in 32nd place overall with a time of 19:11. Austin Cole followed in 42nd place with a 22:21 effort, while Michael Pugh would finish with a 22:23 time, good for the 46th place finish.
Daniel VanOosbree turned in a time of 22:41 for the 47th finishing position and Lane Smith was 48th with a time of 24:06.
The harriers will now prepare for their state qualifying Class 1A District and Regional Cross Country meets next Thursday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m. at the Holstein Country Club in Holstein. The top three teams and 10 individuals in both boys and girls will qualify for the State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Lakeside Golf Course north of Fort Dodge.
