Reader Endorses Presidential Candidate
To the Editor:
When I was 10 years old, I stayed up until midnight with my Mom and Dad to watch the returns between Kennedy and Nixon. We had to wait until the next day to find out that Kennedy had won. Our parents were extremely excited and proud of the first Catholic president, and probably the last pro-life Democratic President. Now we have another Catholic running for president in Joe Biden.
As a voter, the first thing I want to know is where a candidate stands on the life issue. Back in the 2012 election, VP Joe Biden, at a debate with Paul Ryan, was asked if he believed life began at conception. After some serious deliberation he said he did. Was this the new Joe Biden? Probably not, just a politician. He was after the Catholic vote.
I do think he was pro-life at one time. In fact, I think a lot of Democrats were. Now the DNC Chairman says if you are pro-life, you can’t be a Democrat. And Democrats-For-Life couldn’t even be part of the Democratic National Convention.
VP Biden stated he would reinstate the Mexico City policy which means if you want aid from the U.S., you have to provide abortion for your people. VP Biden also said he would reverse the Hyde amendment (which he had supported), meaning the American people will have to pay for abortions with our tax dollars. The Little Sisters of the Poor won for the third time at the Supreme Court. They are no longer forced to provide contraceptive coverage in their employees’ health care. VP Biden disagreed with that decision.
I don’t know much about Kamala Harris, other than if you belong to the Knights of Columbus, that should disqualify you from being a judge. At the DNC Convention, they dropped “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance. The Knights of Columbus had a big part in getting “under God” inserted into the pledge originally.
I believe if you’re the Little Sisters of the Poor or a Knight of Columbus, things will not be so good under a Biden/Harris administration. If you haven’t guessed, I’m a proud Catholic and KC who will be voting for the most pro-life president since the Roe v. Wade decision, and I hope my fellow Catholics will too.
As a farmer who has farrowed sows for many years, I’ve had to pull a few pigs, and every so often I get one that pulls back. He doesn’t want to come that way. I got to thinking how awful it must be for the babies that get sucked out piece by piece. I challenge anyone who truly wants to know to rent the movie Unplanned.
