Thank You To The Community
Letter to the Editor:
I want to thank the Emmetsburg School Board, district, parents, staff, students and administration for allowing me to serve on the Board of Education for the last four years. My goal was always to help move the district in a positive direction and help in any way that I possibly could. Educating our students to be successful at the next level is our most important priority. We as a community have a responsibility to provide the best programs, staff, learning environment and facilities that we can for our children. They are out future and there is no better investment that I can think of. I am proud to be an E-Hawk and always will be. As a district we achieved some great successes over the last four years. Just to name a few:
**The new West Elementary addition which added classrooms and allowed or a greater educational experience for our students and staff. It also provided badly needed space for our students.
**The bon on the Middle School project was refinanced, saving the district hundreds of thousands of dollars.
**We have also been able to develop a partnership with the great people of the West Bend-Mallard School District. Due to this partnership and good will we have been able to share Superintendent Amanda Schmidt’s services. This partnership saves both districts tremendous amounts of money to set the stage for program improvements for both schools.
**The School District has also worked with Mr. Gary Richardson as a leader and mentor to our administrative staff. Gary is a highly respected education professional in the state of Iowa and his leadership has provided tremendous educational and financial benefits to our school district.
**?The district is in solid financial standing. Tax asking are lower than most area schools our sized and we are managed very well and very conservatively. That factual data is readily available for public review and has been discussed at the last several school board meetings. It was cover in detail in the September 9, 2015 front page article in this paper.
** There have been recent, much needed and overdue facility and equipment replacement such as school buses, concrete replacements, roofing, lighting and high school gym improvements. These needed items address our students’ needs as well as the needs of our citizens of all ages. These improvement were not financed via property taxes.
** Open enrollment has been increaseing every year due in part to the items I mentioned as well as our outstanding staff and the programs we are able to offer due to community support.
I am proud of our accomplishments over the last four years and the educational vision that we helped to promote. I would not change a thing that we did. We have a great school with the best educational opportunities, staff and facilities of any school our size in the state. I will continue to work to support out students and our school district in any way that I possibly can. I also want to thank my fellow board members, Tammy Naig, Kim Campbell, Rick Bird, Scott Kibbie, BJ?Schany and Kathy Roethler for their hard work, dedication to our children and their friendship.
