What’s Your Phobia?

October is just around the corner – and with it, Halloween. Ghosts and goblins and tombstones are decorating lawns.

For whatever reason, thoughts of Halloween bring thoughts of “phobias.” We found a complete listing of phobias, A to Z.

Here we go:

There are over 65 phobias beginning with the letter A, from Ablutophobia – fear of washing or bathing,to Aviophobia or Aviatophobia – fear of flying. Some additional A phobias include: Alektorophobia – fear of chickens; Aulophobia – fear of flutes; and, Auroraphobia – fear of northern lights.

Only 18 entries under B, notably: Blennophobia – fear of slime; and, Bufonophobia – fear of toads.

More than 50 entries under C, including Cacophobia – fear of ugliness; Chiroptophobia – fear of bats; Coimetrophobia – fear of cemeteries; and, Coulrophobia – fear of clowns.

D phobias inclulde Dendrophobia – fear of trees; Didaskaleinophobia – fear of going to school; and Dromophobia – fear of crossing streets.

E phobias include Epistemophobia – fear of knowledge; and Ergophobia – fear of work.

What do Felinophobia, Ailurophobia, Elurophobia, Galeophobia and Gatophobia have in common??They are all the fear of cats.

Under the letter H we find Herpetophobia – fear of reptiles or creepy, crawly things, and Homichlophobia – fear of fog.

The phobia with the most letters in itsname is Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia – fear of the number 666.

Iophobia is fear of poison.

Katsaridaphobia is fear of cockroaches.

Lachanophobia is fear ofvegetables and Logizomechanophobia is fear of computers.

M phobias include Melanophobia – fear of the color black; and Mottephobia – fear of moths.

Under N we find Neophobia – fear of anything new.

O is for Omphalophobia – fear of belly buttons.

P has some interesting phobias, including:?Panophobia or Pantophobia – fear of everything; Phobophobia – fear of phobias; and Polyphobia – fear of many things.

There are no phobias that begin with the letter Q.

R is for Ranidaphobia – fear of frogs.

S has some interesting phobias: Samhainophobia – fear of Halloween; Selenophobia – fear of the moon; and Siderophobia – fear of stars.

Triskaidekaphobia is one of the most commonly known phobias, fear of the number 13.

V is for Verobphobia – fear of words.

W fits well in October: Wiccaphobia – fear of witches.

X is for Xenoglossophobia – fear of foreign languages.

There are no phobias beginning with the letter Y.

Z is for Zemmiphobia – fear of the great mole rat.
