What Color Is Emmetsburg?

By Staff | Jan 18, 2011

Whatever you want to know is on the Internet.

While skimming an article on “What are your true colors?” I noticed it referenced Leatrice Eiseman, director of the Pantone Color Institute. This was of interest to me because Pantone colors are used in the printing industry.

In fact, I have a Pantone Color Formula Guide that shows the proper amounts of colored ink to use when printing a specific color. For example, one kelly green uses portions of green and black and a darker version includes blue, yellow and black. It’s fascinating.

Back to the article, Eiseman was talking about true colors for individuals and she has developed a “color-time” system. Mother nature enters the equation to decode palettes for every skin type.

The article quotes Eiseman as saying “The best way to judge your coloring is to think in terms of how color appears in nature at various times of the day.”

To do this she has divided skin tones into three categories:?sunrise, sunset and sunlight. “To check which category you fall into, look at the veins in your wrist. If they are green consider yourself a ‘sunset’, if they are blue you’re a ‘sunrise’. If you’re a mix of both you’re in the ‘sunlight’ palette.” The article goes on to explain which colors look best on each type of person: jewel tones, earthy colors, or soft, muted colors.

Fast forward the thought process to what colors represent different personality traits. Then take it one more step and consider what color represents our community.

Emmetsburg may well have “green veins” for a couple of reasons.?We are on the cutting edge of “green” technology with ethanol production and the Irish heritage lends itself to being green.

With more searching on the internet, there are articles on color and personality. Let’s look at green.

Green is the color of life and nature. Green can promote relaxation, peace and calm. People who show a preference for the color green are great listeners who are ready to help a friend in need. These people have a natural curiosity. Emmetsburg could fit into that category.

On the other hand, blue is soothing and relaxing. People who show a preference for the color blue are optimistic. The group I see with a good deal of optimism is Emmetsburg Retail Association. They work diligently to promote the community. Emmetsburg fits into this category also.

Looking at the softer colors, pink reportedly shows concern; yellow is another optimistic, uplifting color; white or cream are colors of harmony and symbols of balance and unity. Residents of the Emmetsburg community look out for one another and lend a helping hand whenever and wherever they can. This is the shining star of ‘community’.

Emmetsburg’s color palette blends into a pretty well balanced community. Sure, we don’t always agree but there is always a solution. We may have different visions, but over time a unified vision comes into focus. It’s all a matter of working together for the betterment of the community. When we do that, we move forward. Color us happy.
