Ellen Marie was born to Vincent and Genevieve Kunz in Storm Lake on June 19, 1943. Shortly after that, Vince was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during WWII. Gen and her three daughters, Patricia, Jacqueline and Ellen Marie moved to Emmetsburg to be near grandparents.

Ellen attended St. Ellen’s School and graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School. After graduation she enrolled in the School of Nursing at Mount Marty College, Yankton, SD.

After college graduation, she married Joe Molloy of Emmetsburg and they later moved to Santa Barbara, CA where their two daughters, Leslie and Lynette, were born. She worked as an RN at Goleta Valley Hospital.

Later, she married Ken Howe. Their son, Bryan, was born in California before they moved to Bend, OR. Ellen received her M.S. degree in nursing in Portland and served as Director of Nursing at St. Charles Medical Center and Professor of Nursing at Central Oregon Community College in Bend.

Upon retirement, she moved to Newberg, OR where she enjoyed being near her children, Lynette and Bryan and grandchildren, Anna, Aislyn and Bennett. She liked gardening, gathering with friends and serving on church committees.

Ellen suffered many health issues and moved to Portland with her daughter, Lynette, during her final battle with cancer. She died knowing she was surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020 at the age 77.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Leslie; Joe Molloy and Ken Howe.

She is survived by her daughter Lynette Bryan of Portland, OR, her son, Bryan Howe of Newberg, OR, and her grandchildren Anna, Aislyn and Bennett. Also left to cherish her memory are her sisters Patricia Cantieri of Emmetsburg, Jackie Black of Manchester, IA and Mary Hilfiker of Emmetsburg. She will be missed by nieces, nephews, many friends and relatives.
