Donna Salis-Christensen

Donna Lynn Salis-Christensen, age 66, of Mallard was born on Feb. 21, 1954 in Jacksonville, FL. She was the daughter of Jerry Randall Salis I and Juanita Genell nee Mills.

Donna had a brilliant mind and an aptitude for learning. She was a model student and excelled at Oak Harbor High School in Oak Harbor, WA. She was a veteran who served in the United States Army. Before retirement, she worked as a medical technician, and later as a homemaker. She graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College in 1996 with an Associate’s degree in Science. She studied English at Buena Vista University. Donna Lynn was a beautiful person who loved gardening, animals, philosophy, and theology. She will be remembered as a generous giver who dedicated her life to making a positive difference.

Donna was the devoted sister of Jerry Randall “Randy” Salis II, Teresa Jane (Bloomfield) Applegate, and Laurie Ann (Johnson) Schmidt. Donna was the proud mother of Sommer Rose Batuk (born 1978), Brandon Richard Hale (born 1987), and Jonathan Wesley Hale (born 1989). She loved her three children and nine grandchildren dearly.

She is survived by her loving husband Bruce Christensen of Mallard; her daughter Sommer of New York, and sons Brandon and Jonathan of South Dakota; daughters-in-law Berna-dette and Samantha; her nine grandchildren; her brother Randy Salis of Florida, her sister Laurie (Kent) Schmidt of Emmetsburg, and her brother-in-law Steve Applegate of Virginia; her brother-in-law Gregory (Sharon) Christensen and her sister-in-law Karen (Dan Gatto) Weidauer, both of California; her step-father Thomas (Kris) Minnick of Arizona/Michigan; her uncles Bernie (Becky) Salis and Ronnie (Denah) Salis, both of Florida; her uncles Jimmy Mills of Florida and John (Hope) Mills of California; her aunt Peggy Mills of Florida; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Teresa, several uncles and aunts, and her grandparents.

Donna passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer, at her home in Mallard on Monday, July 27, 2020.

Her funeral and interment were held on Wednesday, July 29, on a family acreage southwest of Newell. The service was officiated by her son Jonathan, assisted by Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home.
