Randal James Moffitt
Funeral service for Randal James Moffitt was held Friday, Jan. 30 at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. Rev. Lana Williams officiated.
Inurnment was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville. Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Randal James Moffitt, son of Roger and Renie (Jones) Moffitt, was born December 29, 1968 in Estherville.
He received his education in Estherville, graduating from Estherville High School in 1987.
Following high school Randy attended Iowa State University.
On March 11, 1996 Randal was united in marriage to April Eaton at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.
They had known each other from a young age as their families were longtime friends.
They went on to become high school sweethearts and later attended college together.
To this union two sons were born.
They moved to their first home in Nevada and then returned to their hometown of Estherville.
In 2014 they made their home in Emmetsburg.
Randy’s employment included Whittenburg Distributing (Budweiser) of Spencer, POET in Emmetsburg and most recently at Pro Coop in Graettinger.
He was a member of the Estherville Elks Lodge and the Emmetsburg Kiwanis.
He taught Sunday School at the Estherville United Methodist Church.
He started and coached the first Lego League for the Estherville community.
Randy was also an active volunteer for the Emmetsburg High School.
Activities included: Band booster board member, E’Hawk High School baseball announcer and varsity football videographer.
He was always willing to lend a hand.
Randy was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, son, uncle and friend to many.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, listening to music, going to concerts, traveling and taking family trips.
He was a beloved Indianapolis Colts fan and was fortunate to have met two of his sports heroes, Peyton Manning and Dallas Clark.
He also liked to go fishing and restoring pinball machines.
He will always be remembered for his ability to quote movie lines, entertain us by telling stories and for his recent interest and talent in painting.
You would most likely see him around town wearing a ball cap and a smile.
Randal passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the Avera Holy Family Catholic Hospital in Estherville at the age of 51.
He is survived by his wife, April of Emmetsburg; his sons, Connor Moffitt and Shane Moffitt of Emmetsburg; his parents, Roger Moffitt of Ames and Renie Jones of Athol, ID; brothers, Ryan (Kim) Moffitt of Ames, Rob (Alyssa) Moffitt of North Mankato, MN and Dustin (Ashley) Moffitt of Nevada; a sister, Rochelle (Stefan) Nickolay of Huxley; 15 nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
