Funeral service for Robert M. Andersen was held Thursday, Dec. 5 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Rev. Peter Morlock officiated.

Inurnment was in South Walnut Cemetery, Graettinger. Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert M. Andersen was born November 13, 1933 in Emmetsburg the son of Marinus and Anna (Petersen) Andersen. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1951 and continued his education at Iowa State University, graduating with a degree in Architectural Engineering. While in college, Bob was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society in Architecture and Allied Arts.

From 1956 to 1976 Bob was an owner of Andersen Construction Company, doing building construction throughout the state of Iowa. From 1976 until his retirement in 1991 he farmed in Palo Alto County.

On June 16, 1957 Bob was united in marriage to Carol Larsen at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. To this union a son Robert A. “Rob” was born.

Bob was active in many organizations over the years. He was a member of Master Builders of Iowa and Associated General Contractors of America. He joined the Emmetsburg Rotary Club in 1968 and was a Paul Harris Fellow and a long time member of the Masonic Lodge.

Bob served on the Board of Trustees for Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities for many years and served as chairman of the board. He was an active and devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church and served on the church council, the board of trustees and the board of deacons. He also served on many committees.

Bob loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, golf, hunting, boating, fishing and camping. He and Carol enjoyed summers at the Iowa Great Lakes and winters in Arizona for many years.

They enjoyed traveling as a family and made many trips with their travel trailer throughout the United States and Canada.

A traveling highlight was a trip to Europe where they had the opportunity to visit many relatives in Denmark.

Bob cherished his family and friends and time with his grandchildren was very special to him.

Bob passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carol.

He is survived by his son, Robert “Rob” Andersen of Austin, TX. and three grandchildren, Matthew and his wife, Dylan, Rachel and Elizabeth.
