Donald James Krough
Funeral service for Donald J. Krough was held Saturday, Nov. 23 at Martin Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Pastor Judy DePue officiated. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg.
Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Donald James Krough, son of Earnest J. and Lena E. (Petticord) Krough, was born March 15, 1946 in Emmetsburg. He received his education in Emmetsburg and following graduation attended Iowa Lakes Community College.
In 1966 Don was united in marriage to Rosemary Ziegler. They were blessed with one daughter, Dena.
Don was employed at the Emmetsburg newspaper and later at the Gambles Store, where he worked until it burned down. He was also employed at the Texaco station and worked for the Emmetsburg Police Department for a few years before becoming an inspector for the State of Iowa. Don owned the Redwood Caf for a short time and then began working at Horizons Unlimited until his retirement.
Don enjoyed fishing, tinkering with mechanics and playing guitar. He loved riding his motorcycle and scooter and looked forward to going on drives throughout the countryside. He also enjoyed having coffee with his friends nearly every day at Dyno’s.
Don passed away Monday, Nov. 18 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Lena Krough; step mothers, Ann Krough and Vida Krough; and a sister, Lois Krough.
He is survived by his daughter, Dena Bierstedt (Brian) of Norwalk; two grandchildren, Kaleb and Kendal Bierstedt; sisters, Lynn Voigt (Charles) of Altoona, and Lori Krough (Barb) of Newcastle, OK; step siblings, Steve Krough, Susan Shellabarger (Jay), Tom Krough (Ginny), Richard Krough, Beverly Carstensen, Rosemary Culberton and Dan Ziegler (Betty); several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
