Regina Ann Leuer

Regina Ann Leuer, daughter of Irven and Agnes (Gerard) Reckard was born April 5, 1934 in Bradgate. She was a graduate of Rolfe High School, and she continued her education in cosmetology school.

Ann was united in marriage to Gerald Leuer at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Rolfe. The couple raised their children in the Mallard area where they farmed, and Ann shared a hair salon in Ayrshire for several years.

Ann was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mallard for many years where she was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and she was a current member of Holy Family Parish in Emmetsburg. She served on the Mallard Library Board, and she was a member of the Garden Club, Quilting Club and Palo Alto County Hospital Auxiliary.

She was an excellent seamstress and tailor. She could make cute little dresses, fun dresses, flower girl dresses, prom dresses bridesmaid dresses and her own dresses. She could fix any pair of jeans, zippers in coats, hems and do alterations. Her latest venture was making quilts for all in her family and mastering the embroidery machine.

Ann loved the Christmas season and making decorations every year. Special gifts for the little ones was one of her great Christmas joys; she crocheted blankets, mittens and hats.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, Ann passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: James Leuer (Susan) of Ocala, FL, Thomas Leuer (Jody) of Mallard, Curtis Leuer (Debbie) of Dewitt, Dennis Leuer (Joan) of Laurens; her sister, Roberta Ellis of Spearfish, SD; two brothers: Charles Reckard (Mary R.) of Arnolds Park and Joseph Reckard (Mary D.) of Moline, IL; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Gerald.

A funeral mass for Regina Ann Leuer was held Friday, Nov. 15, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Mallard. The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
