A memorial service for Meredith Nevenhoven will be held on Nov. 11, 2017 at 1pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Emmetsburg. There will be time for family and friends to gather after the service starting at 1:30pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Nov. 17, 2017 from 4-7pm at Colby Park, Windsor Heights, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family.
Meredith Nevenhoven, age 79, of West Des Moines, went to Heaven, surrounded by her children, on Oct. 17, 2017, at Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines.
Meredith was born on May 21, 1938, in Rice Lake, WI, the daughter of Dorothy(Dornsbach) and Tom Monteith. She was raised in Marshalltown and Eldora, graduating from Eldora High School in 1956. Meredith attended Iowa Teacher’s College (UNI) graduating in 1958 with a two year degree in elementary education.
She married Norman Nevenhoven on June 3, 1959 and to this union three children were born. They made their homes in Perry and Emmetsburg.
Meredith held jobs as a kindergarten teacher, Director of Christian Education, home health aide through Palo Alto Community Health Services, manager of Willow Ridge Independent Living, and was a private in-home care aide. Meredith enjoyed taking care of people and with many of those she cared for she developed a special friendship.
After retirement, Meredith moved to West Des Moines where she resided until her death. Hobbies and interests for Meredith included being an avid reader, Bible studies, stitchery, painting, classic movies, and listening to the Iowa State Cyclones.
Meredith is survived by her children, Tami (Bob) Feauto, Sioux Center; Wendy (Greg Brown) Nevenhoven, Des Moines; and Mark (Shar) Nevenhoven, West Des Moines; grandchildren, Rachel(Caleb)Waldner; Mark(Chelsey)Feauto; Gabriel and Grace Feauto; Jonathan and Nathan Nevenhoven; four great-grandboys, and friend/former husband, Norman.
