Georgette K. Soenen
A funeral service for Georgette Soenen will be held Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral home in?Emmetsburg. Reverend Clem Currans will officiate.
Inurnment will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Emmetsburg. Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Georgette Kathrine Soenen, daughter of Sylvere and Martha (Van Acker) Laleman, was born September 15, 1931 in Marshall, Minnesota. She received her education in Cottonwood, Minnesota.
On January 31, 1951, Georgette was united in marriage to Louie Soenen in Green Valley, Minnesota. To this union four children were born: Ronald, James, Linda and Denny.
Georgette and Louie lived in Marshall, Minnesota where they farmed until Louis left to serve in the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, Louie returned to Marshall to farm. In 1966 the Soenens moved to Emmetsburg where Louie was part owner of Soenen Truck Stop and Georgette was a waitress at the diner for twenty two years.
Georgette was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and doing all kinds of crafts.
She was devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and looked forward to every moment she was able to spend with each of them.
Georgette and Louie traveled to Florida, Alaska and Mexico throughout their marriage and Georgette enjoyed these trips very much.
Georgette passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louie; their son, Denny; daughter-in-law, Cindy Soenen; and sister-in-law, Rita Laleman.
She is survived by her children, Ron Soenen (April) of Emmetsburg; Jim Soenen of Emmetsburg, and Linda Vosika (Mike) of Pocahontas,; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Josie Farasyn (Larry) of Marshall, Minnesota and Jean Haverkast (Larry) of Mendham, New Jersey; a brother, George Laleman of Cottonwood, Minnesota; brother-in-law Gerard Soenen (Florence) of Emmetsburg; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
