Shirley A. Morey 1936-2017

A service was held for Shirley on Monday, June 19 at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. Reverend Louie Gallo officiated.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg. Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Ann (Carlson) Morey, daughter of Theodore “Jack” and Ethel (Cook) Carlson, was born July 21, 1936 in Palo Alto County, near Mallard. She received her education in Mallard, graduating from Mallard Community School in 1955. Shirley attended thirteen years of school with perfect attendance. She also played on the Mallard girls basketball team that went to the state tournament.

On March 11, 1956 Shirley was united in marriage to Howard Eldon Morey at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. To this union four children were born. Howard and Shirley farmed near Mallard until moving to Emmetsburg a few years ago.

Shirley was a member of the Mallard United Methodist Church where she was active in church circle and helped with many activities in the church. She was a member of the West Bend Bowling League and currently was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg.

Shirley passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 at her home in Emmetsburg, at the age of 80.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Richard Carlson; sister, Kay Schafer, Nola Coleman and Karen Moser.

She is survived by her husband, Howard of Emmetsburg; her children, David (Marilyn) Morey of Mallard, Julie (Randy) Rouse of Corydon, Jeffrey (Lori) Morey of Emmetsburg and Debra (Patrick) Kibbie of Emmetsburg; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Jack Carlson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Gary (Barb) Carlson of Anamosa; nieces and nephews.
