Olive Jeanne Johnson, daughter of Arnold and Olive (Johnson) Barth, was born May 2, 1930 on the family farm near Havelock. She was a graduate of Havelock High School, and she continued her education at what is now AIB Business School in Des Moines where she continued to play basketball.
On March 12, 1950, Jeanne was united in marriage to George Junior Johnson in Havelock, and in 1961, they moved to a farm near Mallard where they raised their children.
Jeanne was a stay at home mom, raising her four children before working as a secretary for the Mallard school district and as a clerk for the Pocahontas Court House.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mallard where she would volunteer countless hours. Jeanne taught Sunday School, was active in the United Methodist Women, and she was a group leader in the Methodist Youth Fellowship.
She was an avid sports enthusiast. Jeanne was honorable mention all-state on her Havelock High School basketball team. Her love of sports continued as she traveled all over the area and country following her children and grandchildren in their many different sporting events. She had a special love for basketball – no matter who was playing.
Jeanne and George enjoyed hosting foreign exchange students. They loved to entertain family and friends. No one was a stranger to Jeanne. She was always ready to lend a hand and help anyone in need.
