John “Jack” L. Lowe 1937-2016
Funeral services for John “Jack” P. Lowe were held Wednesday, Dec. 28 at First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. Rev. Louis Q. Gallo and Pastor Judy DePue officiated. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.
John Leroy Lowe, son of John “Elsmer” and Gertrude Olive (Jennings) Lowe, was born July 1, 1937 near Mallard on his family’s farm. He began his education in Mallard and in 1949 Jack’s family moved to Cylinder where he completed his education at Cylinder Community School.
On May 31, 1959 Jack was united in marriage to Judith Cork at the United Methodist Church in West Bend, Iowa. To this union three children were born.
Jack served in the Iowa National Guard. He farmed near Cylinder and was involved with Cylinder Camper Sales. Later, he and Jerry Holland owned H&L Sales, selling C.B. radios and microwaves. Jack then began selling insurance with Farm Bureau and in 1979 he joined Pat Mehan and Jerry Holland to form Mehan, Holland and Lowe Insurance in Emmetsburg. Jack retired from the agency in 2005.
Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Earnest Lodge No. 399, AF and AM of Emmetsburg. He was a member of Mainstreet Community Theater and had participated in several productions at Mainstreet. Jack was an avid golfer and member of the Emmetsburg Country Club. Jack enjoyed bowling, playing pool and snowmobiling. When he was younger he played fast pitch softball, and raced Go Carts. Jack also liked playing Poker and 500 with his friends.
Jack passed away, Saturday, December 24, 2016 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Center in Mason City, Iowa, at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Tom Myers; brothers-in-law, Burton O. Cork and Meryl B. Cork.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of Emmetsburg, Iowa; his children, Bill Lowe of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Jennifer Myers of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Richard Lowe of Emmetsburg, Iowa; five grandchildren, Robbie Myers, Megan (Bill) Geelan, Michael Myers, Natalee Lowe and Nick Lowe; a brother-in-law, Bill Cork of Mason City, Iowa.
