LaVonne B. Domek 1930-2016

A Mass of Christian Burial for LaVonne B. Domek will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Celebrant is the Rev. Clem Currans.

Interment will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Whittemore. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

LaVonne Betty Domek, daughter of Clarence and Clara (Hansen) Westfall, was born April 2, 1930 in Graettinger. She began her education at Gravel Pit Country School and graduated from Graettinger High School in 1948.

On Sept. 22, 1949, LaVonne was united in marriage to James Warren Domek at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. To this union three children were born.

Jim and LaVonne farmed near Emmetsburg for many years before retiring and moving into town. LaVonne attended Iowa Lakes Community College where she took classes to become certified as a nurses aid. She was then employed at the Palo Alto County Hospital. LaVonne and Jim raised a large garden and enjoyed selling their produce at Farmers Market on the Courthouse square. LaVonne was known in the area for her delicious homemade pies.

LaVonne was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she was active in church circle. LaVonne’s family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

LaVonne passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James on March 7, 2013; twin grandchildren, James and Jennifer Domek; and two brothers, Donald Westfall and LeRoy Westfall.

She is survived by her children, James R. Domek and his wife, Pamela of Estherville, Patricia Christensen of Havelock, David W. Domek and his wife, Shelle of Wallingford; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren, Mariah Chrestiansen and her husband, Justine and their children, Bridget and Katelyn, Ian Domek, Tanya Fitzgerald and her husband, Evan and their children. Luxie and Lydia, Chase Domek and Park Domek; as well as many other relatives and friends.
