Ruth Ann Streufert 1938-2016
A memorial service for Ruth Ann Streufert will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.
Inurnment will take place in Willow Creek Cemetery at Royal
Ruth Ann Streufert, the daughter of Clarence Henry and Myrtle Evangeline (Lunden) Berg, was born Dec. 15, 1938 in Spencer. Her early childhood years were on a farm near Peterson. The family later moved to town where she graduated in 1956 from Peterson High School. Ruth Ann attended business school in Omaha, NE, for one year following high school.
On June 14, 1959, Ruth Ann married Derald Streufert at the Congregational Church in Peterson. Following their marriage, Derald and Ruth Ann lived in the Peterson and Sutherland areas before moving to Emmetsburg in 1963. Ruth Ann worked as a bookkeeper for the Brenton Bank in Emmetsburg for 28 years, and later part time for the Palo Alto County Recorder’s Office for 14 years. She was a member of the Emmetsburg United Methodist Church.
Ruth Ann enjoyed reading, cross-word puzzles, word search, and having lunch at the casino with her bank friends. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family gatherings.
Ruth Ann passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 77 years of age.
She is survived by her two children; Dale (Rhonda) Streufert of Spencer, and Deanna (Tim) Reiten of Minot, ND; three grandchildren: Daniel (Billie) Streufert of Sioux Falls, SD, Jennifer (Darwin) Schiltz of Spencer, Joe (Brindi) Streufert of Geneva, NE; and five great-grandchildren: Hannah, Andrew, and Matthew Schiltz of Spencer and Samuel and Briella Streufert of Sioux Falls, SD.
Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband Derald in 2010.
