Delores T. Thompson 1933-2016

ALPINE, CA — Delores Thelma Thompson died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at her home in Alpine, CA.

Delores was born March 29, 1933 near Emmetsburg. She graduated from Cylinder High School and then attended Westmar College in Le Mars where she received her Associate Degree. After teaching for 10 years in Emmetsburg, she moved to California.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree and taught in the Mountain Empire Unified School District for 39 more years. She taught at Jacumba, Campo and Pine Valley Elementaries until her retirement in June 2006.

Even after retirement, Miss Thompson continued to touch the lives of children by substituting in Pine Valley and at Descanso Elementary Schools.

Dee had a life-long love for sports, and for many years was a season ticket holder for her beloved San Diego Padres and Chargers.

Dee loved teaching kindergarten, and in turn was beloved by students and staff.

Survivors include sister Alyce Thompson Kivell and husband Wayne of Northfield, MN, sister-in-law Betty Thompson of Mankato, MN; two nieces, four nephews and eight grand nieces and nephews.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Thompson, brothers John and Robert Thompson, and sister Elaine Thompson.
