Robert Fitzgerald Flannegan, son of Hugh and Elizabeth (Szack) Flannegan was born Jan. 21, 1961 in Emmetsburg. He attended Emmetsburg Catholic Grade School and Emmetsburg High School. Following his education, Bobe worked for his dad at Flannegan Conservation Service. He began working on the dredge at Five Island Lake for the City of Emmetsburg in the early years of its operation. After his disability, he worked several handy-man jobs when he was able.
Bobe was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved animals, going to the casino and pulling the occasional prank on friends and family. Bobe, as he was fondly called by his friends, had a gift of being approachable, tenderhearted and kind. He had a quick wit, a green thumb and an infectious laugh. He will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.
On Sunday, June 5, 2016, Bobe passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD after a courageous battle with cancer.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Liz of Emmetsburg; sister, Lisa Kobernusz of Boone; two brothers, John Flannegan and Mike Flannegan (Cindy), all of Emmetsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his grandparents; father, Hugh; brother, Steven; and his great-niece.
