Rickie Finnestad 1955-2016

Rickie Dwayne Finnestad, 60, of Navarre FL, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 3:30 a.m.

Rickie was born in Emmetsburg to Howard and Betty (Coburn) Finnestad on Nov. 13, 1955. Rickie was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Depew, where the base of his Christian faith began and he formed lifelong friendships.

He attended grade school in Cylinder, Iowa and continued his secondary education in Emmetsburg. Rick graduated in 1974 and was the president of his class.

While in school, Rick participated in many activities such as, choir, 4-H, and sports. He excelled in the sport of football in which he lettered all four years as a kicker and defensive player.

Rick served in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and Operating Room Technician from Nov. 19, 1975 to Nov. 18, 1981.

While stationed at the Naval Hospital in Millington, TN, Rick met the love of his life, Linda Mary Vannucci. They were married in the Hospital Chapel on Oct. 9, 1981. They moved several times due to Linda’s naval career and developed many strong friendships along the way. Their current home is in Navarre FL.

Rick was a devoted husband and father. They adopted their son, Brian, on Feb. 14, 1990.

Rick, his family, and friends enjoyed the outdoors together, camping, hunting, and fishing.

Rick had a successful career as a Sales Manager for New Brunswick International Scales and Service, New Brunswick, NJ. He traveled to much of the USA and some overseas countries as NBI’s National Industrial Sales Manager. His strong work ethic, fun-loving attitude, and desire to help others created long lasting relationships with his co-workers and customers.

Rickie was preceded in death by his father, Howard Finnestad. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Linda of Navarre, FL; son, Brian of Blue Earth, MN; his mother, Betty Finnestad of Emmetsburg; sisters, Sandy (Pat) Gappa of Cylinder, Nancy (Jay) Borchardt of Cylinder, and Carol (David) Solberg of Ringsted; nieces, nephews, family, and close friends. He will be missed greatly.

Church Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Depew, on Saturday, June 4, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at South St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation and lunch to follow at St. John’s Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Emmetsburg School Athletic Programs or Ingham Lake Bible Camp in Rick’s honor.
