Donald V. Guttau 1922-2016
MONDAMIN — Donald V. Guttau, 94, of Mondamin, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, NE.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with the Rev. Doug Cue and Lay Leader Kim Shepard, officiating. Burial will be in Soldier Valley Cemetery, Pisgah.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa.
Donald Vern was born Jan. 23, 1922 in Silver Creek Township, Iowa the son of Harry and Nellie (Forristall) Guttau. He attended country school in Silver Creek Township.
Donald and Betty Allmon were united in marriage on Dec. 31, 1950 in Missouri Valley.
Donald was a lifelong farmer who loved the farm life. Donald enjoyed traveling with his family on yearly trips, and made every trip one to remember.
Donald is a member of the Mondamin United Methodist Church, Mondamin.
Survivors include his wife of over 65 years, Betty Guttau of Mondamin; children, Donald Craig Guttau of Mondamin, Julie Marian Thiel of Emmetsburg, and Mark Robert Guttau of Mondamin; three grandchildren, Jamie Thiel, Jennifer Thiel and Jessica Thiel; three great-grandchildren, Lily, Susie, Samuel, and Ayden Thiel; sister-in-law, Bonnie Hinkel of Omaha, NE; first cousin, Gerald Forristall; many nieces and nephews; and “other daughters”, Kim Shepard and Brenda (Kelly) Parent.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Nellie (Forristall) Guttau; step-mother, Leone Carrell-Guttau; son-in-law, James Thiel; great-grandson, Zachary Hindman; four brothers, Glen (Bessie) Guttau, Arthur (Dorothy Guttau, Archie (Kathryn) and (Louise) Guttau and Darrell Guttau; and three sisters, Maxine (Gerald) Wallis, Marge (Earl) Hinkel, and Margaret (Russell) Lawrenson.
