Elaine C. Thompson
Former Emmetsburg resident Elaine Cecelia Thompson died Monday, March 14, 2016, at Life Care Center of North Glendale, AZ. Funeral services are pending at Trinity Lutheran Church of Phoenix.
Elaine was born March 10, 1928 near Emmetsburg. She graduated from Cylinder High School and then attended the Iowa Dental Assistant program in Spencer. After graduating, she worked for Dr. C. L. Teeter in Emmetsburg and continued with him when he moved his practice to Phoenix, AZ, in the late 1960s. Many friends were made through the 42 years in this dental office. She served at one time as president of the Arizona Dental Association.
Elaine had a life-long love for sports. She played basketball for Cylinder High School and became a fan of Iowa Hawkeye athletics, and, after moving to Phoenix, followed the Cardinals, Diamondbacks and Suns.
Elaine loved to embroider, knit and crochet. Most of all she liked to bake cookies, which she would share with her neighbors and friends at church.
Survivors include sisters Alyce Thompson Kivell and husband Wayne of Northfield, MN, Delores Thompson of Alpine, CA, sister-in-law Betty Thompson of Mankato, MN; two nieces, four nephews and several grand nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Thompson, and brothers John and Robert Thompson.
