Ruth M. James 1927-2016
GRAETTINGER — Memorial service for Ruth James of Graettinger will be held at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Graettinger. Pastor Randy James will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 1:15 to 2 p.m. at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Graettinger.
Interment will be in Valley Vue Cemetery, Graettinger. The Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Graettinger is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Marjorie (Wikert) James was the third child, first daughter, of Ray Wikert and Lillian (Rasmussen) Wikert, born in Graettinger, on May 20, 1927. She passed away at the Ruthven Community Care Center, on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 the age of 88 years, 9 months.
Ruth was born on a farm, educated in the Graettinger schools, and lived in the Graettinger area most of her life. Following high school graduation, she traveled to visit her older brother Roland, while he was in US Army in Maryland, worked for a short time there in a drug store, and met E.F. “Pete” James who was stationed in the US Army at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Ruth and Pete were married after a short courtship and, upon Pete’s discharge, returned to the Graettinger area to live and raise a family.
Two boys, Randy and Tony, were born to their 70-year marriage. Ruth worked at a variety of jobs: P.G. Grays as a line worker, Estherville; the U.S. Post Office as a postal clerk, Graettinger; and the Graettinger Community Schools as a cook. Ruth loved to collect Precious Moments and P. Buckley Moss prints.
Ruth has been preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Lillian Wikert; two older brothers, Roland Wikert and Leo Wikert; and a daughter-in-law, Cindy James.
Surviving are her husband, Pete, Good Samaritan Society, Estherville; sons, Randy, Graettinger; and Tony (Donna), Altoona; grandchildren: Kipp (Christina) James, Hillsboro, OR; Chelsea (Chuck) McNally, Waverly; Allison (Dale) Santoiemma, Waverly; and Heather James, Overland Park, KS; great grandchildren, Randi Kaye (Kyle) Cook, Emmetsburg; Dylan James, Dalton James, Sophie James, Jake Russo, Alexis Russo, all of Hillsboro and Portland, OR; Patrick McNally, Cedar Falls, Alexis, Joseph and Tyler McNally, all of Waverly; Gabriel and Michael Santoiemma, Waverly; great-great grandchildren, Johnny and June Cook, Emmetsburg; and one younger sister, Nona McCain, Vermillion, SD.
Ruth’s earthly body will be put to rest in the Valley View Cemetery, Graettinger, until our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, returns.
