Mar 1, 2016

AYRSHIRE — A Mass of Christian Burial for Rose G. Hill will be held Tuesday, March 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ayrshire. Concelebrants are the Rev. Clem Currans and the Rev. Peter Nguyen.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ayrshire is in charge of arrangements.

Rose Geretta Hill, daughter of Thomas Foy and Mary Elizabeth (Sanders) Paden, was born Sept. 30, 1926 on the family farm near Curlew. Rose graduated from Ayrshire Consolidated School in 1945.

On May 10, 1950 Rose was united in marriage to Leslie Hill at the rectory in Emmetsburg. They farmed northwest of Ayrshire for three years before moving southeast of Ayrshire to the Paden family farm where they lived and farmed for the rest of their lives.

Rose was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society. She had also been a 4-H leader for several years and taught CCD classes for a short time.

Rose enjoyed quilting and made a quilt for each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very proud of each of them. Family was an integral part of Rose’s life and after Leslie’s death she began having biennial Paden, Sanders and Larson family reunions and get-togethers so that everyone was able to stay in touch and have the opportunity to meet each other. Rose was an exceptional cook. One of the family favorites was her roast beef dinner, delicious gravy and homemade buns. Rose enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and all of the wildlife and deer that visited her on the farm.

Rose passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents; three children in infancy; her husband, Leslie; three brothers, Henry “Bud”, Bernard “John” and Robert Paden; four sisters, Catherine Dennis, Bessie Paden, Marie Allen and Helen Paden.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Hill of Spencer, Darlene (Roger) Hankey of Emmetsburg, Dan Hill of Spencer, and Gloria (Bill) Garber of Papillion, NE; four grandchildren, Emily Hankey, Eric Hankey, Ryan Garber and Alex Garber; two great grandchildren, Patrick Ryan Garber and Daniel Ross Garber; sister-in-law, Helen Foote of Spencer; niece and goddaughter, Mary Allen; her nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
