Vivian M. Slaven 1921-2016
Vivian Margaret Slaven, 94, passed away Sunday,, Jan. 17, 2016 at Bishop Drumm Care Center, Johnston.
She was born Feb. 1, 1921 in Emmetsburg to William and Lulie Martini and grew up on the family farm in Cylinder. Vivian loved to go shopping and out to lunch. She enjoyed sitting out on the deck in the summertime.
She raised her family in Fort Dodge and moved to Des Moines in 1988 to live with family.
Vivian is survived by her children, Kathleen (Erik) Talbot, Thomas (Beth) Slaven, Eileen (Doug) Hockstein, Mary (James) Gordon and Timothy (Colette) Slaven; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grand- children; and three siblings, Alice Gibson, Ilene Fandel and Eldon (Patricia) Martini. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Emmet; five brothers, Francis, William, Lloyd, Floyd and Richard Martini; and one sister, Louella Forman.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Corpus Christi Cemetery in Fort Dodge.
