Alice Hansen 1926-2015
Alice Hansen, 89, of Waverly, was surrounded by her children as she peacefully went to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday morning, Dec. 12, 2015.
Alice was born on Dec. 2, 1926, at home, one mile south of Ossian, IA, the daughter of Harold and Agnes (Lommen) Hammersland. Alice was baptized on Jan. 2, 1927 and later confirmed her faith on July 7, 1940, at Stavanger Lutheran Church in Ossian. On June 11, 1950, she was united in marriage to Erling Hansen at Stavanger Lutheran Church near Ossian. Beginning May of 1953, the couple served several Lutheran parishes including the towns of Ladysmith and Glen Flora, WI, Emmetsburg and Waverly in Iowa.
Alice was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly. In her spare time she enjoyed many activities including Bible Study, was a 25 year Hospice Volunteer, traveling, singing, quilting, her garden flowers and volunteering. Alice cherished her time spent with her family, grandchildren and friends.
Alice is survived and dearly loved by her four children and their spouses, Paul Hansen, Stephen (Ann) Hansen, Christine (Rick) Johnson and Margaret (Michael) Ficken; seven grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Deloach, Marie Hansen, Nathan Johnson, Leigh (Richard) Conner, Kelly (Trevor) Somers, Michael Ficken, Megan Ficken; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Clarice Larson, Norma Springer and Agnes Marie (Franklin) Reyner; and sister-in-law, Gladys Hammersland. Alice is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Agnes; her husband, Rev. Erling Hansen; brother, Harold Hammersland; two sisters, Sylvia Belschner, Ada Boyce; and four brothers-in-law, Harold Larson, Delbert Belschner, Kenneth Springer and Arden Boyce.
Celebration of Life Services was held on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Pastor Nancy Larson officiating. Burial was in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. The Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly assisted the family.
