Carol P. Wirtz 1942-2015
Funeral service for Carol Wirtz of Ruthven was held Monday, Dec. 14, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.
Interment was in Silver Lake Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Carol Phyllis Wirtz, daughter of Leonard and Gladys (Tjebben) Kloster was born Nov. 15, 1942 in Emmetsburg. She attended grade school in Mallard, and she was a graduate of Mallard High School.
On Oct. 26, 1962, Carol was united in marriage to Ron Wirtz at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard. The couple raised their two children, Deb and Jon in Emmetsburg.
Carol worked in Emmetsburg at the United States Department of Agriculture for over 40 years, and she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Carol always enjoyed spending time at the lake whether it was Okoboji, Lost Island and more recently, Silver Lake where she and Ron lived. She loved to attend all of her grandchildren’s school activities, and more than anything, she treasured the time she spent with her family.
On Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, Carol passed away at the Ruthven Care Center following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 73.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Ron of Ruthven; daughter, Deb Schleisman and her husband, Les of Lake City, and their children: Chelsea Irwin (Todd) and Ashley Schleisman; son, Jon of Mallard and his children: Rachel, Amber and Garrett Wirtz; two great-grandchildren: Tyler and Tessa Irwin; three sisters: Denise Nichols (Jim) of Lafayette, IN, Julie Wilson of Austin, MN and Kathy Kistler of Omaha, NE; three brothers: Tom Kloster of Laurens, Tim Kloster (Judy) of Arlington, NE and Dan Kloster (Deanna) of Blair, NE.
