Marcella J. Gile 1935-2015

Funeral service for Marcella J. Gile, 80, of Emmetsburg will be held at 1:30 p.m.Thursday, Oct. 1, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Emmetsburg. Rev. Nicholas Thackery will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marcella Jean Gile, daughter of Gilbert and Mildred (Neilson) Austin, was born April 25, 1935 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. On January 30, 1943, Marcella was baptized along with her brother and sister in Oregon City, Oregon. Marcella began her education in Portland, Oregon, when her family returned to Emmetsburg, where she completed her education. She was confirmed on June 25, 1950 in Emmetsburg.

On May 31, 1953 Marcella was united in marriage to Wendell M. Gile at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. To this union two children were born.

Marcella was employed at JC Penney stores in Emmetsburg and Estherville as well as other retail stores in the area. She was the secretary at Palo Alto County Public Health for eighteen years and also secretary at the Emmetsburg Medical Clinic. Marcella was the site manager for Dinner Date at the Senior Center for three and a half years, before retiring.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, serving as Board Secretary for three years. She was also a Care Review Advocate at the Emmetsburg Care Center for fifteen years.

Marcella passed away Sunday, September 27, 2015, at her home in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 45 years, Wendell; and a brother, Glen Austin.

She is survived by her children, Beth Ann Overmohle (Robert) of Storm Lake, Iowa and James Austin Gile (Sharon Alderson) of Emmetsburg, Iowa; grandchildren, Tyler Overmohle (Samantha) of Waukee, Iowa, Shelby Mixdorf (Joel) of Coralville, Iowa, Blake Overmohle (Kallie Croker) of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Taylor Gile (Ashley Moore) of Emmetsburg, Iowa; great grandchildren, Traiten Gile and Steven Moore; sister, Lois Strenge (George) of Spirit Lak; sister-in-law Margaret Austin of Clive; and numerous nieces and nephews.
