Phyllis J. Kane 1922-2015
Funeral service for Phyllis Jeannette Kane of Emmetsburg was held Saturday, Sept. 19, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Phyllis Jeannette Kane, daughter of Frank and Anna Louise (Thomann)?Gilchrist, was born Aug. 3, 1922 in Emmetsburg. She received her education at Emmetsburg Community School. Following graduation, Phyllis taught school in a one room country schoolhouse. She was later employed as a telephone operator.
On Oct. 12, 1942, Phyllis was united in marriage to Leo Kane at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. To this union four daughters and one son were born.
Phyllis also worked at Berkley’s in Emmetsburg, the Cylinder Elevator and as the Cylinder City Clerk. Phyllis was a true supporter of Cylinder and was named Grand Marshall of Cylinder’s Quasquicentennial Celebration. She was a member of the Cylinder Women’s Club and Five Islander Camping Club.
Phyllis passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015 at PARC?Hall in Emmetsburg, IA, at the age of 93. She was preceeded in death by her parents; her husband Leo; a daughter, Pat Jauron; a son, Bill Kane; step grandson; great-granddaughter, Jai Reed and four sisters, Hazel Wood, Jessie Roth, Helen Gilchrist and Dorothy Cross.
She is survived by three daughters, Sherrie and Harlan Meints of Atwater, MN; Ginger and Dale Hoffman of Graettinger, and Therese and Chuck Duhn of Emmetsburg; daughter-in-law Ann Kane of Red Lodge, MT; fourteen grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bob Kane of Des Plaines, IL, Joe and Mary Kane of Remsen and Jeannine Snavely of Emmetsburg; several nieces and nephews as well as many other relatives and friends.
